2012 Kern County Players’ Choice MVPs

Independence quarterback Preston Hodges was voted the Kern County Offensive Player of the Year and Garces defensive lineman Bryan McCullar was voted the Kern County Defensive Player of the Year in the 2012 CentralValleyFootball.com Players’ Choice Awards.

Although a productive player as a junior, Hodges reached new heights his senior season as the Falcons’ dual threat quarterback. The senior playmaker rushed for 1,154 yards and 16 touchdowns, with an 8.5 yards-per-carry average, plus completed 40.9 percent of his passes for 1,187 yards, 14 touchdowns and six interceptions.

At 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, McCullar was an imposing force on the defensive line and led the Garces front seven. His Rams’ defense allowed just 15.4 points per game and notched three shutouts, as Garces went 13-1 overall, 5-0 in Southeast Yosemite League play and won the CIF Division II Valley Championship.

Hodges will be Kern County’s candidate in the Offensive Player of the Year voting and McCullar will be Kern County’s candidate in the Defensive Player of the Year voting in the 2012 CentralValleyFootball.com People’s Choice ALL-VALLEY Team voting.

Both will be candidates in the All-Valley overall MVP voting.
