Alvarez passes for 504 yards in COS shootout

Redwood graduate Raul Alvarez passed for more than 500 yards for the College of Sequoias on Saturday and the Giants needed every one of them, as they outgunned San Joaquin Delta, 46-45, in overtime.

Alvarez went 41-for-57 in the game for 504 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

San Joaquin Delta quarterback Bowe Merin had a strong showing for himself also, completing 29-of-36 passes for 353 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Both teams combined for 1,153 yards from scrimmage in the contest—COS had 688 yards and SJD had 465 yards.

San Joaquin Delta’s 38-27 lead with 12:26 remaining in the third quarter was the largest of the game.

Alvarez finally sealed the victory for COS with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Coalinga graduate Brian Alvarado in the overtime session.

Alvarado ended the game with 16 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown on the ground and four receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Hanford graduate Brandon Hudgins led the Giants in receiving with 14 receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown, plus he had one carry for 42 yards.

Adrian Ramos led San Joaquin Delta defense with 20 tackles including 1 ½ for a loss. He also broke up a pass. Bobby Bivens, Jamie Christopherson and Nathan Didonato each recorded nine tackles for the Giant defense.
