Balanced rushing attack leads Mendota past Coalinga

Mendota’s balanced rushing attack led the Aztecs to a 24-13 win over Coalinga on Friday at home.

The Aztecs rushed for 259 yards and two touchdowns on 46 carries.

The bulk of the rushing load was shared between three running backs—Marco Rodriguez with 10 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown, Raul Rangel with 10 carries for 75 yards and Fernando Mojarro with 21 carries for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Mendota quarterback Junior Cardenas completed 5-of-9 passes in the game for 52 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.

Coalinga running back Orlando Hernandez led the Horned Toads with 20 carries for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

The Aztecs improve to 5-2 on the season, while Coalinga drops to 1-6.
