Buchanan shocks Edison in defensive battle

Buchanan’s conservative gameplan to keep the score close worked out, as the Bears knocked off Edison, 16-14, on Friday at Sunnyside Stadium.

The Bears fell behind 14-10 on a four-yard touchdown by Edison’s Deandre Lockhart. With less than a minute to go, Buchanan needed to go 52 yards.

Buchanan marched down the field and was faced with a 4th and five with five seconds remaining. Quarterback Josh Friesen connected with Ezra Owens for the 11-yard game-winning touchdown as time expired.

Friesen completed 10 of 18 passes in the game for 87 yards a touchdown and an interception.

Chibuikem Dunu led Buchanan with 19 carries for 76 yards.

Edison quarterback Matthew Torres went 8-for-10 for 140 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.

Damon Rogers led all receivers with four catches for 102 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown reception.
