Bulldogs knock off Abilene Christian to begin 2015


Fresno State still needs to work out a number of kinks, but the Bulldogs put together a 34-13 win over Abilene Christian to open the 2015 season at home on Thursday.

Fresno State’s starting quarterback Zack Greenlee at times looked sharp and even threw three touchdown passes in the game. The sophomore out of Stockton went 14-for-32 for 156 yards with an interception.

The ‘Dogs elected to use a two-quarterback rotation and true freshman Chason Virgil came in and completed 8-of-13 passes for 61 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

The two quarterbacks combined to go 22-for-45 for 217 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

Josiah Blandin led the Bulldog receivers with four catches for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Keyan Williams had the most receptions with seven for 34 yards. Jamire Jordan also caught a 25-yard touchdown pass and tight end Chad Olsen caught two touchdown passes for the ‘Dogs.

Also worth noting, the offensive line didn’t give up a single sack in the game.

Running back Marteze Waller, the offense’s marquee player, rushed 22 times for 154 yards, but didn’t reach the end zone.

In the postgame press conference Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter said he was overall pleased with his defense’s production.

The Bulldog defense limited ACU to 247 yards of total offense, including 34 rushing yards.

Ridgeview grad Shannon Brown tied for the team lead with six tackles.

The Fresno State defense recorded five sacks and two interceptions.
