Chavez pulls away from Bakersfield Christian in 2nd half

After taking a one-touchdown deficit into halftime, No. 25 Chavez ran away from 17-th ranked Bakersfield Christian in a 27-10 win on Friday in Delano.

The Eagles led 10-3 at half, but the Titans scored 24 unanswered points in the second half.

Damin Avila led Chavez with 20 carries for 119 yards and a touchdown. Mario Solorio added eight carries for 56 yards and a touchdown and Edgar Sanchez added seven carries for 44 yards.

Chavez quarterback Deion Perkins completed 3-of-5 passes for 49 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.

With BCHS running back Matt Smith out, the Titans could focus on slowing down the Eagle passing game.

Quarterback Brandon Jones completed 13-of-28 passes for 144 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

RJ Oliver was his top target with four receptions for 99 yards.

Smith’s replacement, Stephen Figures rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.
