Clovis prevails with another dramatic victory

Top-ranked Clovis is earning a reputation for its flare for the dramatic, as the 5-0 Cougars won their third game this season by a touchdown or less.

In this particular case, the difference was merely a point, as Clovis defeated Centennial, 28-27, after the Golden Hawks failed to connect on a PAT kick.

In the third quarter, Hunter Giulietti scored on a one-yard touchdown run. However the Hawks could not connect on the would-be tying PAT kick. That would be the last score of the game.

Clovis’ rushing trio of Nash Vidmar, Christian Copeland and Josh Hokit combined for 214 yards in the game. Vidmar led the way with 12 carries fro 93 yards and a touchdown, followed by Copeland with 10 carries for 77 yards and Hokit with two carries for 44 yards.

The Golden Hawk defense did a commendable job limiting the Cougar passing attack. Clovis quarterback Sean Kuenzinger went 6-for-18 for 107 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Wills led the Clovis receiving corps with four catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Conversely, Centennial quarterback Cesar DeLeon went 20-for-30 for 139 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Centennial running back Brandon Robinson led all rushers with 19 carries for 113 yards. Giulietti added 11 carries for 72 yards and a touchdown.
