Drillers finish regular season with 37-6 blowout of Stockdale

Bakersfield crushed Stockdale, 37-6, on Friday at Griffith Field to complete a Southwest Yosemite League sweep and likely lock up a No. 1 seed for the playoffs.

Senior quarterback Asauni Rufus completed 5 of 7 passes for 178 yards in the rout, to go with 63 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Derrick Vickers rushed eight times for 55 yards for the Drillers. Jonathan Malone scored on a one-yard touchdown run and backup quarterback Noah Holle had a four-yard touchdown run.

Bakersfield DBs Bryson Briggs and Kevin Hayes each had big interception returns where they were tackled just short of the goal line.

Xavier Chisolm led the Stockdale offense with 17 carries for 121 yards and the Mustangs’ only touchdown on a 70-yard run.

The second-ranked Drillers improve to 8-2 on the season, but both of their losses are to Southern Section powerhouses Oaks Christian and Long Beach Poly. They are undefeated against Central Section teams, while No. 1 Edison suffered its first loss of the season to end the regular season.
