Foothill shutters Delano’s playoff hopes

Delano rode their workhouse running back Zachary Perigo this far and it was his legs that was going to determine how far the Tigers were going to go in the playoffs.

But that finally came to an end, as the Tigers lost a heartbreaker, 13-10 in overtime, to Foothill in the first round of the playoffs on Friday in Delano.

Perigo carried the load again, as he went over the 100-yard mark again. But the Trojans made him earn every yard, as he rushed for 149 yards on 35 carries for a 4.3 yard-per-carry average. He also scored Delano’s only touchdown of the game on an 11-yard run.

On the opposite side of the field, running back Ricky Evaro rushed for 126 yards on 25 carries for the Trojans, including a four-yard game winning touchdown run in overtime.

In the extra frame, the Trojans limited Delano to just a field goal and on their possession Evaro crossed the goal line to give Foothill a 13-10 win.

Trojan quarterback Ryan Rangle went 6-for-12 on the night for 53 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. His leading receiver was Bryan Velasquez with three catches for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Foothill will now go on to play Madera South next Friday.
