Fresno State still in running for Central’s blue-chip seniors

Despite internet reports to the contrary, Central’s two superstar recruits — wide receiver B.J. Kelley and running back Brendon Bigelow — are still considering Fresno State.

Kelley has been offered by BCS schools such as Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona and Arizona State, in addition to the Bulldogs’ offer.

And there were reports he narrowed it down to Northwestern, Cal and Oregon, but Kelley said that is not the case on Saturday after the scrimmage against Merced.

“Definitely still considering Fresno State,” Kelley said and later reiterated, “… definitely Fresno State, I’m still looking at them. Nobody is ruled out.”

Fresno State’s new conference alignment also has Kelley intrigued.

“I liked that they moved to the Mountain West, that’s pretty exciting for them,” Kelley said with a big smile on his face.

Kelley said Northwestern and Oregon are both still up there, but he also named a school you might not expect.

“I went to visit Cal Poly and I loved that, it’s nice out there,” Kelley said. “It was a nice unofficial (visit).”

Playing FCS wouldn’t bother Kelley at all.

“Cal Poly is really good academically, they have good players there, really good fundamentals,” Kelley said. “I watched some films over them with them.”

Fresno State may be a little more of a long shot for Kelley’s four-star teammate Bigelow, who has committed to Washington, but is still mulling over his choices.

“Washington did a good job as far as talking to him and establishing a relationship with him and all that good stuff. At the same time, other schools have offered him and he felt like sitting back and evaluating it and going to Washington that he’s going to keep his options open,” Bigelow’s coach Casey Quinn said. “It is no disrespect to Washington, they are doing a great job recruiting him, he’s just keeping his options open.”

When asked directly about the Bulldogs’ chances Quinn said, “Fresno State does have a good chance with him.”
