Ground game leads Avenal past Strathmore

Avenal’s trio of Eric Ramirez, Michael Padilla and Manuel Alvarez combined for 339 yards rushing, as Avenal defeated Strathmore, 50-13, on Friday in Avenal.

Ramirez rushed nine times for 127 yards and intercepted two passes on defense and scored four total touchdowns. Padilla rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Alvarez had 15 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Avenal jumped out to a 14-0 lead and extended it to 22-7 going into halftime. The Bucs kept the foot on the throttle and outscored the Spartans, 28-6, in the second half.

Javier Moreno carried the ball 18 times for 75 yards and both of the Spartans’ touchdowns.
