Hanford’s Johnson-Hughes connection unstoppable in 2nd Half

The Ryan Johnson-to-Juju Hughes connection exploited the Sonora defense for three second-half touchdowns, as Hanford pulled away with for a 42-18 win on Friday on the road.

With the win, Hanford advances to the Division IV-AA CIF State Championship Game next week.

Both squads battled in a tight first half on Friday, as the Bullpups took just a 14-11 lead into halftime.

But the Bullpup offense was just too much in the second half and the Hanford defense kept Sonora at bay.

Johnson finished the game 18-of-28 for 242 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Hughes was his top receiver with six catches for 119 yards and three touchdowns, followed by Cole Taber with six receptions for 75 yards.

Joseph McDaniel put together another of marquee performances with 25 carries for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

Tyrace Richardson also rushed for a six-yard touchdown for the ‘Pups.

Hanford will host Bonita Vista next Saturday at 6 p.m. for the State Championship.
