Hernandez wills Lindsay to semifinals

Senior Jacob Hernandez willed his Lindsay Cardinals to a narrow 28-20 win over Kern Valley on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Division V Valley Playoffs.

Hernandez piled up 257 yards of total offense and four touchdowns, with 169 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and three receptions for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other side of the field, Kern Valley quarterback Dalton Gallis had a stellar night, completing 8-of-14 passes for 147 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also led the Broncs with 22 carries for 91 yards.

Kern Valley scored the first touchdown of the game on a one-yard touchdown run by Brennen Medley. The Broncs extended its lead to 12-0 with a 42-yard touchdown pass from Gallis to Cody Little.

However Hernandez scored four unanswered touchdowns for the Cardinals, as they took a 28-12 lead into the fourth quarter.

Gallis connected with Little again for a 38-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, but that would be as close as the Broncs would get.

Little ended the night with four receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

Lindsay quarterback Alex Jara completed 9-of-16 passes for 144 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Lindsay will advance to face top-seeded Liberty-Madera Ranchos in the semifinals next week.
