Hoover grad Eric Kendricks wins 2014 Butkus Award

Hoover graduate and UCLA linebacker Eric Kendricks was announced as the 2014 Butkus Award winner on Tuesday morning.

The award is presented annually to the top linebacker in college football.

Kendricks leads the Bruins in tackles with 139 on the season and also became UCLA’s all-time leading tackler with 471 career stops.

“He has been overlooked much of his career despite being an extremely productive tackling machine and opportunistic playmaker against the run and pass,” the selection committee said about Kendricks in a release. “His exceptional instincts, motor, toughness and football intelligence distinguished his play.”

The committee was also impressed with his character as a person.

“His integrity, selflessness and leadership embody what the Butkus Award represents.”

Below is a very small set of Kendricks’ highlights at Hoover.
