Hughes, McDaniel each score 2 TDs, Hanford wins first ever Valley Championship

Hanford’s duo of Juju Hughes and Joseph McDaniel each scored a pair of touchdowns in a 35-14 victory over Madera on Friday as Bullpup Nation collectively hoisted its first Valley Championship in school history.

McDaniel was a force on the ground, as he rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.

Hughes used both his feet and his hands to find paydirt, with four catches for 88 yards and a touchdown and four carries for 40 yards and a touchdown.

The Bullpups took a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, but Madera cut the deficit to 14-7 with a 33-yard touchdown run by Jesus Jimenez before halftime.

In the third quarter, the teams exchanged touchdowns, but the Bullpups put the game out of reach with a pair of touchdowns in the final quarter.

Hanford quarterback Ryan Johnson went 8-for-17 for 171 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions, plus he rushed 10 times for 35 yards and another score.

As a defensive unit, the Bullpups picked off three passes in the game.

Madera quarterback Nathaniel Nelson went 13-for-27 for 123 yards and a touchdown in the contest.

Jimenez finished with 21 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown. Versatile senior Coyote Alec Gamboa caught six passes for 68 yards and a touchdown, plus rushed for 27 yards on nine carries.
