Immanuel stuns Woodlake for 1st round upset

The 11-seeded Immanuel Eagles openly embraced the underdogs with a chip on their shoulders role, as they jumped out to an early lead and went into No. 6 seed Woodlake Tigers’ house and pulled a 33-20 upset.

The Eagles decided to take the fight to the favored Tigers right out of the gates, as running back Khalil Montgomery exploded for two touchdown runs of 98 and 51 yards.

Teammate Chris Rosedale caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Daggs and Woodlake found itself down 20-0 in the first quarter.

After a scoreless second quarter, Woodlake got on the board when Andrew Chavez connected with a Ricky Rodriguez for a touchdown pass.

However Montgomery struck again with a 73-yard touchdown run and a 22-yard touchdown run.

Woodlake added a 60-yard touchdown run by Elijah Cunningham and a 50-yard touchdown run by John Kulick, but the Tigers never regained the lead.

Montgomery ended the night with 32 carries for 353 yards and four touchdowns.

Daggs completed 6-of-12 passes for 70 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the contest.

Immanuel moves on to face No. 3 seed Firebaugh next Friday on the road.
