Jimenez, Gamboa electrify in Madera rout of Roosevelt

After Roosevelt tied the game at 7-7 in the second quarter, Madera went to outscore the Rough Riders 51-7 throughout the remainder of the game, in the Coyotes’ 58-14 win on Thursday in Fresno.

The Madera offense was powered behind running back Jesus Jimenez, who rushed for 267 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries in the contest.

With Jimenez running the ball effectively, it opened up the passing game.

Coyote wide receiver Alec Gamboa had a big night catching three passes for 71 yards and a touchdown.

The versatile senior also scored on a run and a 47-yard punt return for a touchdown, giving him three total touchdowns on the night.

Madera quarterback Nathaniel Nelson went 8-of-11 for the night for 130 yards and two touchdowns. But of those three passes that were not completed, two were interceptions.

The one bright spot on the night for the Rough Riders was running back Terrik Perry, who rushed for about 120 yards in the contest.

Madera improved to 2-0 on the season, while Roosevelt dropped to 0-2.
