Jones accounts for six TDs, BCHS gets itself back on track

No. 25 Bakersfield Christian quarterback Brandon Jones and his squad left little doubt they are ready to leave their 1-3 start behind them, as they soundly defeated a solid 24th-ranked Wasco team, 66-35, on Friday in Wasco.

Jones accounted for six total touchdowns and nearly 400 yards of total offense. The senior signal-caller completed 17-of-22 passes for 282 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions, plus he also rushed 11 times for 99 yards, including a 54-yard run.

R.J. Oliver caught five passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns for the Eagles. Zach Balfanz hauled in nine receptions for 122 yards and two touchdowns, plus returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown.

The Eagles weren’t limited to the air, as running back Matt Smith rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, to go with Jones’ 99 yards rushing.

The Tigers also were effective moving the ball on the ground, as they rushed for 474 yards in the game.

Gabriel Cabezuela rushed for 263 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries. Deonte Henderson added 16 times for 189 yards and two touchdowns.
