Brandon Jones threw a pair of touchdown passes and Nathan DeJager booted two field goals in Bakersfield Christian’s 20-7 second round win over Tulare Western on Thursday.

With the win, the Eagles move on to the Division III Valley Semifinals and one step closer to a return appearance in the Valley Championship.

Initially the game appeared like it may be a rough one for the Eagles, as Mustang DB Rudy Vasquez picked Jones off and returned it 74 yards for the first score of the game.

But Jones gathered himself and finished the night with 24-of-34 passing for 273 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the victory.

His first scoring strike was a 30-yard completion to Tyler Lozano. The next was a 29-yard touchdown pass to Zach Balfanz.

Lozano was his top wide receiver with six catches for 95 yards, followed by Balfanz with six catches for 72 yards.

Tulare Western quarterback Jordan Padilla, filling in for the injured Kobe Portillo, rushed 17 times for 105 yards and completed 10-of-18 passes for 83 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
