Kern Valley outlasts Corcoran in aerial battle

No. 20 Kern Valley held on for a 23-20 victory over Corcoran in a tight contest on Friday in Lake Isabella.

After battling with the Broncs throughout the game, the Panthers cut the deficit to three points with a 59-yard pass from Nico Portillo to Legary Austin.

But that was as close the Panthers would get.

Neither team ran the ball particularly well and both squads attempted at least 40 passes in the game.

Kern Valley quarterback Dalton Gallis went 21-for-40 for 279 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, plus he rushed for another score.

Portillo completed 20-of-38 passes for 197 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, plus he also had a rushing touchdown.

Austin had a game-high nine catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Kern Valley spread the ball around a little more. Shane Hawk led the Broncs with five catches for 64 yards, followed by Hunter Ellis with four catches for 63 yards and a touchdown and Austin Dilley with one catch for 53 yards.
