Kingsburg grinds out win over Monache

In the playoffs style points do not matter and neither Kingsburg or Monache came into the matchup on Friday remotely concerned about doing it “pretty.”

The Marauders made the Vikings work, but Kingsburg pulled away at the end in a 28-14 victory at home.

The quarterbacks went a combined 33-for-76 in the contest.

Viking QB Brandon Steele completed 14-of-36 passes for 169 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, while rushed 18 times for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Marauder QB Miguel Mejia completed 19 of his 40 passing attempts for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

The Vikings took a 13-7 lead into halftime, which score held until the fourth quarter. In that final quarter Steele threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for a two-point conversion to extend the lead to 28-7.

Skyler Schrein caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from Mejia, but that would be all Monache could muster.

Kingsburg advances to the quarterfinal round of the Valley playoffs and will face top-seeded Garces.
