Kingsburg rides second quarter explosion to victory

Kingsburg took control of South with a 26-point second quarter and cruised to a 39-0 win on Friday at home for the first round of the Valley Playoffs.

Viking senior got the scoring started with two-yard touchdown run, but cornerback Roman Rosales ignited the explosion by returning an interception 68 yards for a touchdown.

By time halftime came around, Brandon Steele added a four-yard touchdown run and Austin Bray found Zach Bethel for a 13-yard touchdown pass, as the Vikings took a 26-0 lead.

In the second half Steele posted another touchdown run and Bray threw another touchdown pass, this time a 12-yard completion to Trevor Price, while the defense maintained its shutout.

“I feel our team is jelling at the right time,” said Kingsburg head coach Dave Steele. “Our defense played extremely well tonight and our offense capitalized.”

Steele completed 7-of-11 passes for 77 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions and lead the team in rushing with 12 carries for 57 yards and two touchdowns.

Bray was 4-of-5 on the night for 64 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Senior receiver Kevin Hurtado was their top target, with five receptions for 92 yards.

Demetrius Green led South in yards from scrimmage with 11 carries for 40 yards.

The Vikings move on to face Hanford on the road for the next round of the playoffs.
