Kingsburg survives Coalinga comeback

Kingsburg took a 28-3 lead midway through the third quarter and put it in cruise control against Coalinga, but the Horned Toads had plans of their own.

Coalinga scored three unanswered touchdowns to give themselves a chance to win, but the Vikings were able to hold on with a 28-23 win on Friday in Kingsburg.

Running back Ryan Vasquez scored Coalinga’s first touchdown of the night on a five-yard run in the third quarter.

The Horned Toads added a 17-yard run by Damian Ribera and a 40-yard punt return to pull within five points.

Vasquez would end the night with 60 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

Viking quarterback Brandon Steele went 12-for-23 in the contest for 157 yards, no touchdowns and an interception, but he also rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

Running back Dalton Iriart added 16 carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings are 5-0 on the season.
