Laton’s Arciga named Week 0 Player of the Week

Small-town networking beat out big city enrollment this week, as Laton’s Sergio Arciga was voted the Week 0 People’s Choice Player of the Week by an online fan poll at CentralValleyFootball.com.

The Laton running back/linebacker excelled on both sides of the field in the 22-16 loss to Riverdale on Friday. Arciga rushed 18 times for 158 yards, plus had 12 unassisted tackles and five tackles.

Central cornerback L.J. Moore, Clovis wide receiver/kick returner Garrett Olson, Porterville running back Michael Forrester and Kingsburg quarterback Austin Bray rounded out the top 5.

REMINDER: A player can only win the award once per year and a team can only have a player win it once in a calendar month. In other words, Laton will next be eligible to have a player up for the award in October and Arciga cannot win the award the remainder of the year and. However, by being named Player of the Week, Arciga will automatically be included on the ballot at the end of the year for the People’s Choice All-Valley team.
