Liberty dominates in second half to survive scare

Kerman appeared poised to pull a dramatic upset on Friday night, but No. 13 Liberty-Madera Ranchos retook control of the game in the second half and came away with a 34-16 win.

Kerman jumped up on the Hawks with 94-yard return for a touchdown by Isaac Gastelum on the opening kickoff.

Later in the first quarter, Kerman quarterback Evan Sagariballa connected with Jorge Godinez for a five-touchdown pass. And the undefeated Hawks found themselves in an unusually position—down 13-0 to end the first quarter.

Kerman added a field goal before half and took a 16-0 lead into the locker room.

But it was all Liberty from there on out, as the Hawks outscored the Lions, 34-0, in the second half.

The Hawks scored their five touchdowns by five different players.

Wade Wallace led the Liberty ground game with 15 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown, followed by Jackson Watts with four carries for 51 yards and a touchdown. Richie Brandt added 11 carries for 43 yards.

Andrew Flores led Kerman in rushing with 23 carries for 70 yards.
