Mendota sets Coalinga aside, 35-6

Marco Rodriguez scored on both sides of the both for Mendota, in the Aztecs’ 35-6 road win over Coalinga on Friday.

In the first quarter, Rodriguez caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Estevan Trejo. Then in the second quarter, he picked off Coalinga quarterback Troy Arte and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown.

Not surprisingly, the Mendota offense was powered by a strong rushing attack led by none other than running back Edgar Segura’s 26 carries for 260 yards and three touchdowns.

Tony Villa led the Horned Toads with 16 carries for 110 yards and their only score of the night.

Mendota improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in West Sierra League action, while Coalinga dropped to 2-5 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
