Metcalf lights out in epic showdown with Immanuel


Sam Metcalf put together another epic performance in a storied career with a game-winning touchdown pass in the final minute of Farmersville’s 45-42 win on Friday over Immanuel.

With just 41 seconds remaining in the contest, Metcalf found Andrew Williams for the go-ahead 15-yard touchdown pass for Aztecs to outlast the Eagles in an instant-classic.

In crucial matchup with Division V playoff implications both teams battled and exchanged leads throughout the game.

Farmersville came out hot with a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and then 17-7 in the second quarter.

But Caleb Paulson’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Case capped off three straight-touchdown run to give Immanuel a 28-17 lead.

Farmersville responded with a 60-yard Williamson kickoff return for a touchdown and cut the deficit to 28-24 going into halftime.

The teams exchanged touchdowns in the second half and Immanuel took a 42-38 lead on a 95-yard touchdown pass from Paulson to Aaron Wilson with just 5:29 remaining in the contest.

But Metcalf and the Aztecs put together the game-winning scoring drive to capture a vital win with playoff implications.

Metcalf went 32-for-53 for 496 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the game.

Joseph De La Cruz caught three of those touchdown passes and caught a total of 12 passes in the game for 229 yards. Williamson added five catches for 72 yards and two total touchdowns.

Farmersville improves to 6-1 on the season and Immanuel is now 6-2.
