Onsurez TD pass caps off Stockdale comeback against Sunnyside

Stockdale’s Anthony Onsurez connected with Zach Burden for a 28-yard touchdown pass to cap off a second half comeback in the Mustangs’ 22-21 win over Sunnyside on Friday in Bakersfield.

Sunnyside jumped out to a 14-0 lead behind its workhorse running back Malcolm Williams, who scored both of the Wildcats’ first half touchdowns.

In the third quarter, Stockdale took a 15-14 lead after safety, a 71-yard Jacob Sanchez kickoff return for a touchdown and a 25-yard Onsurez touchdown pass to Sanchez.

Sunnyside retook the lead in the fourth quarter when White picked off a pass and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown.

But the Wildcat lead wouldn’t last, as Onsurez connected with Burden for the game-winner.

Williams ended the game with 202 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries.

Kenny Torrence led the Stockdale rushing attack with 22 carries for 153 yards in the game.

Onsurez completed 7-of-14 passes for 84 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
