Pierson’s Cyclones nearly ruin Oklahoma St.’s perfect record

Independence grad Dale Pierson and his Iowa State Cyclones nearly ended Oklahoma State’s perfect season and bid for a berth in the College Football Playoff on Saturday.

Pierson finished second on the Cyclone defense with 10 tackles, plus he also recorded 1 ½ tackles for loss, a sack and two quarterback hurries.

Iowa State led by as much as 24-7 with 9:29 remaining in the second quarter. But the Cowboys came back to finally take the lead with 3:06 remaining in the fourth quarter and held on for the 35-31 win.

Ridgeview grad Kamari Cotton-Moya, who started the first six games of the season for the Cyclones, has missed the last four games due to a severe hamstring injury.

To this point in the season, Pierson has made 39 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and an interception. Cotton-Moya has recorded 40 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
