Rangel’s 2 TDs lead Mendota over Sierra

Raul Rangel scored a touchdown on offense and defense in leading his Mendota Aztecs to a 26-14 win over Sierra in the Division V Valley Playoffs on Friday.

Rangel rushed for a five-yard touchdown in the second quarter and then recovered a fumble and returned it eight yards for a touchdown in the fourth.

He ended the game with eight carries for 20 yards and one rushing touchdown and one defensive score.

Marco Rodriguez led the Aztecs with 14 carries for 73 yards and Luis Mojarro added 19 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Sierra’s Tim Lee scored on a three-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 13-7.

Mendota responded with a 10-yard touchdown run by Victor Felix and Sierra counted with a three-yard run by Tristan Rehorn. Mendota’s lead was cut to 19-14 in the fourth quarter.

But Rangel’s fumble recovery return sealed the win for the Aztecs.
