Rios boots game-winning FG, Madera defeats Mission Oak

After jumping out to a big lead, Madera found itself in double-overtime with Mission Oak before Evan Rios booted the game-winning 32-yard field goal to lift the Coyotes, 31-28, on Friday in Tulare.

Coyote wide receiver Kristopher Bueno caught a pair of big touchdown passes, as Madera took a 28-21 lead into halftime.

Mission Oak quarterback Trey McJunkin tied the game at 28-28 with a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

But Rios’ field goal in the second overtime session proved to be the decider.

Bueno finished the game with six catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Alec Gamboa added three catches for 44 yards and eight carries for 44 yards.

Madera quarterback Nathaniel Nelson completed 14-of-23 passes for 194 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Jesus Jimenez led the Coyotes with 26 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

McJunkin completed 7-of-18 passes for 171 yards, a touchdown and an interception, plus he rushed for a touchdown.

Artemio Padilla was his top receiver with four catches for 126 yards and a touchdown.

Mission Oak’s top offensive threat Le’Andre Jefferson rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
