Segura cannot be stopped, Aztecs return to Valley Championship

Edgar Segura ran wild and the Mendota defense dominated in the Aztec’s 45-0 blowout of rival Firebaugh on Friday in the semifinals of the Division VI Valley Playoffs.

Segura rushed for 323 yards and five touchdowns on 31 carries with a running clock in the final quarter of the blowout.

The unofficial total for Segura to set the section career rushing record is 83 yards next week in the Division VI Valley Championship Game.

In addition to Segura’s performance, the Mendota defense imposed its will on the Eagles, limiting them to 163 yards from scrimmage in the contest.

The Aztec defense also recorded three interceptions in the contest, including Juan Mendoza’s 40-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Mendoza also rushed 10 times for 68 yards and a touchdown.

The Aztecs will travel to face No. 1 Liberty-Madera Ranchos for the Valley Championship in their first year competing in Division V.
