Speedy’s career night propels Laton to first victory

Last Thursday Sergio “Speedy” Arciga was hardly even known in his own hometown, but if he continues to play like this he may be a Laton legend by the end of his senior season.

The senior running back rushed for 298 yards and three touchdowns by time halftime rolled around, helping Laton cruise to a 38-0 victory on Friday at Fresno Christian.

His coach only allowed him three carries in the second half and Arciga ended the night with 15 carries for 344 yards and four touchdowns.

“My line and fullbacks did the dirty work,” Arciga said deflection attention from himself. “I just had to hit the holes when they were open.”

The team as a whole rushed for 482 yards in the game.

Laton quarterback Christian Pilgrim completed 5-of-8 passes for 90 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Pilgrim’s favorite target on the night was Eduardo Perez, who caught three passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively Arciga had four solo tackles and two assists and Perez intercepted three passes.
