Strong 2nd half propels Porterville past Delano

Determined to get that first win in league play, Delano came out swinging, but No. 16 Porterville prevailed with a 43-32 home win on Friday.

Delano took a 14-12 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 29-22 by halftime. However the Panthers outscored the Tigers, 21-3, in the second half.

Porterville’s Austin Hefner led all rushers with 18 carries for 130 yards and Julian Orozco added six carries for 78 yards and Freddy Gonzalez had eight attempts for 62 yards. Eric Richardson broke a 57-yard run on his only carry of the game.

Panther quarterback Dennis Chester went 6-for-13 for 154 yards in the game.

Delano quarterback David Ibarra completed 12-of-17 passes for 159 yards before leaving the game with an injury to his jaw.

Cameron Dimas filled in his vacancy by completing 6-of-11 passes for 89 yards.

Jose Ayon led all receivers with nine catches for 126 yards and Robert Rivera led the Tigers in rushing with 15 carries for 100 yards.
