The Factory Football Group presents the first-annual People’s Choice All-Valley Football Team.

People’s Choice Player of the Year: Garrett Steele, QB, Sr., Kingsburg
People’s Choice Offensive MVP: Casey Ray, OL, Sr., Porterville
People’s Choice Defensive MVP: Sam Awrabi, DL, Jr., Clovis East

FIRST TEAM

Offense

QB– Cody Kessler, Sr., Centennial — the 6-foot-2, 225-pound USC-commit is widely regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. Passed for 2,831 yards, 36 TDs and only two interceptions. Selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

RB – Brian Alvarado, Jr., Coalinga — the Valley’s leading rusher used his compact but powerful running style to amass 2,569 yards and 31 TDs on the ground, also recorded 97 tackles, 4.5 sacks and an interception on defense.

RB – Kendall Brock, Sr., Clovis West — every week it seemed like Brock was breaking another school record, despite sitting out many fourth quarters, rushed for a total of 2,015 yards and 34 TDs, with a 10.0 yard average.

FB – Marcus Curiel, Jr., Tehachapi — one of the few premier rushing fullbacks in the game, as he picked up 1,122 yards and 16 TDs on the ground for the Division II Valley Champions.

WR – Tanner Silveira, Sr., Lemoore — caught 37 passes for 738 yards and three touchdowns. Brought his game to a new level as the season progressed; receiving for 100+ yards in four of his last five games.

WR – Austin Vierhus, Sr., Coalinga — caught 30 passes for 421 yards and five touchdowns, despite playing in an offense that didn’t throw the ball a lot, was also a starting DB for the Horned Toads.

WR – Chris Cooke, Sr., McLane — added some life to a previously-desolate football program with his 31 catches for 842 yards and 10 TDs for an offense that set school records for passing in 2010.

TE – Benton Bray, Sr., Kingsburg — the Vikings’ 6-foot-4, 225-pound target caught 28 passes for 449 yards and five touchdowns and led all tight ends in the Valley in receiving.

OL – Daniel Barsotti, Jr., Madera — the junior blocked for an offense that rushed for 309.1 yards per game and was voted the best underclassman in a midseason online fan poll.

OL – Santiago Mendoza, Sr., Coalinga — anchored an offensive line that led a path for 3,430 yards and 44 touchdowns, leading the Horned Toads to a Valley Championship game appearance after going 1-9 in 2009.

OL – Doug Blacksill, Sr., Liberty-Bakersfield — powered by the 6-foot-5, 265-pound San Jose State commit, the Patriot offense rushed for 3,105 yards and 31 touchdowns on the season.

OL – Jack Horstmann, Sr., Clovis West — the 6-foot-3, 235-pound center opened holes in the middle for the CW rushing attack that gained 4,024 yards and 52 on the ground, as the Golden Eagles won the D1 Valley title.

OL – Troy Jackson, Sr., Kingsburg — the three-year starter was the complete package, providing excellent pass protection and bulldozing run blocking, as the Vikings put up 466.2 yards of total offense per game.

Defense

DL – Donavon Lewis, Sr., Clovis West — the Fresno State-commit was one of the most feared pass rushers in the Valley. He led Clovis West with 9.5 sacks, plus recorded 75 tackles, one interception and two forced fumbles.

DL – Kevin Sunberg, Soph., Fowler — the 6-foot-2, 250-pound sophomore anchored a defensive line that gave up just 10.7 points per game, shut out four teams and led the Redcats to a D5 Valley Championship.

DL – Sabino Molina, Sr., Coalinga — pass rusher-extraordinaire recorded 10.5 sacks, 61 tackles and forced seven fumbles on the season. Offensively rushed for three touchdowns and caught one TD pass.

DL – Zach Timm, Sr., Tehachapi — a relentless pass rusher that led the Valley Champion defense with 14.5 sacks, plus recorded 84 tackles and recovered three fumbles for the Warriors.

LB – Gabe Gonzales, Sr., Coalinga — Recorded 92 tackles on the season and broke up two passes and recovered a fumble. On offense rushed for two touchdowns.

LB – Justin Van Es, Sr., El Diamante — recorded 105 tackles, intercepted three passes, forced two fumbles and scored a defensive touchdown for the Miners, as they won the West Yosemite title.

LB – Gage Jensen, Sr., Coalinga — leading tackler for the Valley finalist Horned Toads with 108 stops, also was in on 2.5 sacks and forced and recovered two fumbles on the season.

LB – Adam Bullard, Jr., Tehachapi — leading tackler for a defense that allowed just 16.4 points per game, with 133 stops on the season, plus recorded 1.5 sacks and intercepted a pass.

DB – James Bitter, Sr., Clovis West — recorded 96 tackles, broke up 13 passes and intercepted three passes for the Division I Valley Champion defense that allowed just 16.2 points per game.

DB – Gerald Nutt, Sr., Clovis West — came back from a knee injury his junior year to become one of the best cover-corners in the Valley. Recorded 36 tackles on the season, plus returned punts.

DB – Michael Lowder, Sr., Tehachapi — the Division II Valley Champions’ top DB picked off six passes, broke up nine others, caused a fumble and recorded 69 tackles. Also averaged 32.5 yards per kickoff return.

DB – Donnell Vercher, Sr., Clovis — one of the hardest-hitting DBs in the Valley led a stingy Clovis defense with 112 tackles, also picked off four passes, blocked three kicks and forced four fumbles.

K/P – Trevor Sampson, Sr., Clovis West — one of the most powerful legs in the Valley, evidenced by his 47 touchbacks on the season, plus he booted four field goals and 53 PATs.
