Tompkins 2 TDs lead Central past Clovis

Led by Trent Tompkins’ two touchdown passes, the Central Grizzlies edged Clovis, 21-17, in a largely defensive battle that may determine the 2016 TRAC Championship.

With both defenses posting a shutout in the second half, Tompkins’ two touchdown passes, plus Diotry Brewer’s five-yard touchdown run proved to be just enough for the Grizzlies to win.

Tompkins went 23-for-35 for 272 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. His first touchdown pass was a 10-yard completion to Brandon Ballard. Then in the second quarter he found Jagade Bishop for an 18-yard touchdown pass.

Clovis quarterback Trey Lake went 10-for-24 for 204 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the loss.

Samir Allen led the Cougars with 19 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown.
