Tulare grad Green’s Broncos pick up win in opener

Tulare grad Virgil Green and his defending Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos officially opened the 2016 season with a 21-20 home win over the Carolina Panthers.

The contest was a rematch of last season’s Super Bowl, which the Broncos also won, and was the first regular season game of the 2016 NFL season.

Green caught four passes for 28 yards from his tight end position.

The former Tulare standout is coming off a 2015 season, when he set career highs with 12 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown.

The Panthers had a chance to win, but kicker Graham Gano missed the potential game-winning, 50-yard field goal attempt with nine seconds remaining in the game.
