Unified effort leads Liberty to 3rd straight Valley Championship

No single player gained 100 yards of offense or scored more than one touchdown, yet Liberty-Madera Ranchos as a collective unit put together a decisive 24-6 victory over Central Valley Christian on Friday for the Division IV Valley Championship.

The title is Liberty’s third straight Valley Championship, with the previous two coming in Division V.

The Hawk defense stood out on the night, limiting the high-powered Central Valley Christian run game to 76 yards and forcing the Cavaliers to pass. When they went to the air, the Hawks picked them off twice in the game.

Offensively the Hawks pounded the rock with their multitude of ball carriers. Liberty rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries, led by Chad Wallace’s six carries for 58 yards and a touchdown.

Richie Brandt also scored on a three-yard touchdown run and Liberty’s other touchdown was a 24-yard pass from Zach Richey to Joseph Castaneda.

In the fourth quarter CVC got on the board with a six-yard touchdown pass from Jack Vander Dussen to Sam Vander Dussen.
