Wiley accounts for 6 TDs in Independence victory

Mira Monte appeared to have Independence back on its heels early on, but the Falcons responded and capped off a 42-21 win on Friday in Bakersfield.

The Lions finished the first quarter with a 15-7 lead, but the Falcons outscored them, 35-6, the remainder of the game.

Independence’s Jordan Wiley accounted for a total of six touchdowns in the contest. The senior quarterback completed 20-of-38 passes for 338 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, plus rushed 17 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns.

Fred Weaver was his top target with eight catches for 139 yards and a touchdown, followed by Chris Lopez with three receptions for 78 yards. Daniel Martinez and Ty Williams also caught touchdown passes for the Falcons.

Running back Kievan Bagsby led the Lions with eight carries for 112 yards, including an 85-yard touchdown run.
