Wiley, Independence light up Highland


Independence’s dual-threat quarterback Jordan Wiley accounted for five touchdowns in the Falcons’ 54-12 road win over Highland on Saturday in Bakersfield.

Wiley produced 414 yards of total offense in leading the Falcons.

The 6-foot-4 senior signal caller completed 16-of-26 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns in the contest.

The sole glaring blemish on his performance was his only interception in the game, which Highland linebacker Chance Cooper returned 47 yards for a touchdown.

Independence took a 34-12 lead into halftime and added 20 more points while shutting out Stockdale in the second half.

Fred Weaver caught two of Wiley’s touchdown passes and ended the night with six catches for 93 yards. Ty Williams took his only reception of the night 77 yards for a Falcon touchdown.

Jaylan Somerville rushed five times for 77 yards—including a 66-yard touchdown run.

Highland quarterback Chase Hansen completed 19-of-31 passes for 143 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.
