Wright, Martinez lead CW past Clovis

Clovis West’s Adrian Martinez and Rodney Wright both showed their versatility through the air and on the ground in the Golden Eagles’ 41-27 win over cross-town rival Clovis on Friday.

Wright both rushed for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass, while Martinez passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two.

In total, Martinez went 36-for-48 for 327 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while rushing 14 times for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

Wright rushed 12 times in the game for 103 yards and a touchdown and caught seven passes for 83 yards and a touchdown.

After a tight first two quarters of action, Clovis West went into the locker room with a 24-17 lead. The Cougars had their chances, but Martinez’s second rushing touchdown—an eight-yard score—gave the Golden Eagles a two-touchdown lead, which they held on to for the win.

Samir Allen led the Cougars in rushing with 25 carries for 151 yards, but did not reach the endzone. Tyson Frazier returned a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter for Clovis.
