Youngblood’s 3 TD passes help Frontier overcome deficit

Frontier quarterback Greg Youngblood threw three second half touchdown passes to overcome an early deficit and pick up a 38-28 victory over Central on Friday in Bakersfield.

Central took a 14-10 lead into halftime and extended it to 21-10 in the third quarter, before the Titan offense woke up and went to work.

Youngblood, who had rushed for a touchdown but hadn’t thrown a touchdown pass up to that point, connected on three touchdown passes and four total touchdowns by the end of the game.

He finished 10-of-20 for 161 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, plus the rushing touchdown.

Jacob Briones was his leading receiver with three catches for 139 yards and all three of Youngblood’s touchdown passes.

Cameron Meek was the workhorse of the Frontier offense, rushing for 209 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.

Central quarterback Nick Szpor completed 22-of-34 passes for 335 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions and completed passes to five different receivers.

Nate Howard led the Grizzly receiving corps with four catches for 102 yards and a touchdown, followed by Michael Gonzales with six catches for 81 yards. Jevon Bigelow added six catches for 69 yards.

Dennis Laney led Central with 19 carries for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
